  JAVA Interactive Maps
CITYNEO innovates again with a much more fluid and intuitive map navigation on mobiles, using new Java applications.
Java applications on mobile phones were limited to games. But starting October 2004, these applications will benefit practical mapping services! I-mode subscribers of 4 European countries (the Netherlands with KPN, France with Bouygues Telecom, Italy with WIND and Spain with Telefonica) will access CITYNEO MAPS, a mobile mapping service using DoJa.

DoJa (Do Como Java) is i-mode’s customized version of Java technology for mobiles developed by NTT Do Como and Sun Microsystems. DoJa compatible i-mode devices have a dynamic memory and can download and stock applications.

Cityneo developed a very light DoJa version (25 kb) of CITYNEO MAPS allowing a mobile user to view a detailed map but more specifically to move it intuitively using the up, down, right, left arrows. The new section of the map is downloaded as required strengthening the smoothness of the navigation. Of course zooming levels are adjustable.

All that has to be done is to download CITYNEO MAPS DoJa application at the first usage, and then one can view a map and move it interactively and almost instantaneously !

This same CITYNEO MAPS application will be launched on Java J2ME (WAP technology) before year-end.
Customer benefits

Speed: No need to wait for next map to be sent again by the server.
Readability : Navigation being easy, one can obtain zoomed in maps or on the contrary global view of an itinerary for example in few clicks.
How does it work ?

A mobile user downloads the Java application
He either types in an address or uses automatic location provided by the operator
A map is displayed on the screen
It can be moved using the 4 directional arrows of the mobile phone
The map « slides » smoothly making it more readable to the customer.
And how does it work technically ?
The Cityneo DoJa mapping application is a three third application :

Front office, downloadable mobile thin client (DOJA multithread
application): HMI (input screen and drawn screens), communication with the Middle-Office, management of the map display.
Middle-office, servlet family: management of the request of the DoJa application, optimisation of the image size, cache handler, image cropping, application version handler, billing controller.
Back-office, CITYNEO Geospatial platform: transformation of the
coordinates (geo-transform module), dynamic map construction (map builder module), address analysis and geocoding (parser module)
